Spurs – here we go again, this time it was a BIG mistake!

Spurs, AVB and the illusion we actually have strikers

Well Spurs never fail to frustrate, that is it, the end of another January transfer window, we got rid of some dead wood but still stuck with Bentley and made the transfer signing of the window Lewis Holtby but why did we have to make a drama out of the signing?

Spurs Big failure though was not signing a striker, Leandro Damiao would have almost guaranteed a top 4 finish but you can’t sign a world-class striker who resides in Brazil when you don’t even start until the last day!

Daniel Levy
Spurs Chairman

This Spurs article is not anti AVB or Levy, I think in AVB we have potentially the best manager in the premiership and Levy is without question the best chairman but an extra £3/4m on Damiao would have yielded £30/50m in champions League revenue!

Now, of course if we get the 3rd/4th place and hence Champions League football then Levy will have been justified but we will be relying on Bale because we don’t have any quality strikers, Adebayor is not motivated or interested now he has his contract and Defoe can be good but has never been a top draw striker, is very wasteful of chances, contributes nothing to the team if he is not scoring goals and is carrying an injury.

I can understand Levy being cautious after Harry persuaded him to buy Defoe for £15m, Keane back for probably another £15m and of course Crouch probably £12m, all were vastly overpriced and not good enough for the team, if Harry had put together a top quality strike force we would have been in the top 4 every year.

One of the best deals Levy ever did was to sell Keane to Liverpool for £20m, Keane had a good season but it was self-evident that he was being made to look good by Berby and after he went to Manchester United Keane was no use to Spurs and although he cost £20m he could not get into a poor Liverpool team, Harry then unravelled the deal and brought Keane back to Spurs and after £30m worth of business buying Defoe and Keane Harry never played them!

So I can understand Levy being cautious but for the same money he could have bought a world-class striker with a possible 10 years service to Spurs ahead of him and I worry on 2 counts 1)  Leandro Damiao m,ay be out of our price league in the summer and 2) without a top class striker our Champions League place is in danger, we Spurs fans have to hope for a miracle change in Adebayors attitude or Defoe to play better than he has since he arrived back at the club, then of course we must question how bad the injury to Defoe is because we may not have him at all!

Finally, don’t mention Dempsey, a good player but just nowhere near good enough, or Siguurdson, again nice idea at the time but just not good enough, both are squad players and should ship out in the summer.

This must be HOT conversation for Spurs fans so

  1. How do you rate AVB and Levy
  2. What do you think our chances are of Champions League football now
  3. How do you rate Defoe
  4. What is your opinion of Dempsey and Siguurdson
