Riots, what should our response be?

Riots, the big question and yes, have the politicians really grasped the problem, do we want to understand the solution or will it be too painful for some to admit?

It has been a week now since the major riots, everything is under control, we are left with the aftermath but the cleanup has started but why did the riots happen and how can we now move things forward! The reason the riots happened is complex and simple at the same time, simple because we are reaping what we have sown with no discipline in the home or the school, parents don’t support the teachers any more, the cane at school or a slap on the legs at home or school never harmed any child, the do-gooders led by prominent people such as Esther Rantzen CBE just do not realize the damage they have done to many past and of course future generations of children by pursuing an environment where physical punishment is not allowed.

In my day, if I had the cane at school and my father found out I would get another clip around the ear or legs for getting into trouble at school, it never did me anything but good and if the teacher had got it wrong my father would still support the teacher because you must never undermine genuine authority. Parents today always seem to support their child which undermines the teachers authority completely, children now know the teachers can’t do anything to discipline them and many leave school with no experience of discipline or a sound idea of right or wrong! The reason for the riots is complex because the remedy not only involves reversing generations of miss guided direction in the way we bring up our children and reintroducing respect back into our society but also we must look at the support structures like social and youth clubs, libraries and local sports facilities to occupy young adults who seem to have lost the ability and imagination to occupy themselves. It is also the example left by their parents and copied by their children, we have all seen it and it leaves me seething such as supermarket trollies not returned to their parking bays, fast food packaging just dropped by the side of the car before they drive off etc. The lack of discipline is highlighted by the number of young people who can’t even use a knife and fork, it used to be a mothers greatest pride to see their young child display perfect table manners but not anymore, without a proper disciplined upbringing and the social skills required our children’s ability to make a real success out of their lives will be severely restricted which in itself provides the breeding ground for the riots we saw the last week!

We must look at the support structures like social and youth clubs, libraries and local sports facilities to occupy young adults who seem to have lost the ability and imagination to occupy themselves.

It is also important to take on board how our national institutions have failed us, lets just take a look at teaching and teachers who refuse to accept real change and just want the government to let them get on with it but the left-wing influenced teaching methods have failed for generations, in my father’s day children left school at 14 or earlier but left with a knowledge of history, trigonometry, mental arithmetic and english and all would be able to display good table manners which is something we can only dream of today when they leave much later!

Also, although all governments over the past 50 years are to blame, we must not forget the damning influence of New labour over their 13 years of power where they encouraged the something for nothing society from the top down and actually did more damage to this country through the undermining of social discipline and general respect than even the banking crises did, the economy will be fixed far quicker than the social problems they left behind and again I don’t think people like Harriet Harman grasp the damage they did to the very fabric of this country.

This is David Cameron’s chance to give his period as Prime Minister a real identity by leading a moral and legitative crusade to repair this country and he must do it with or without the Lib Dem’s because it is the left-wing liberal elite who have damaged this country so much, Mr Cameron, just be a true Conservative, yes move a little to the right and you only have one chance!

Some of you may agree with me, some may not but that is the nature of democracy so have your say, comment and join the debate
