And in a clear message to activists uneasy about working together with their traditional foes, the Lib Dem leader insisted there would “never again” be a return to the policies of Margaret Thatcher’s administration of the 1980s.

He put some of the blame for the Lib Dems’ setbacks in Scotland and northern cities in last week’s elections on the “deep, visceral memories” of the 1980s and the fear that these areas would once again be “economically … left for dead” as the Government cuts back on spending.

For a start a similar mindset to the 80’s is just what is essential for this countries recovery, the 80’s were a period when once again the Conservative party had to clean up the mess left by Labour who had left the country bankrupt, familiar story! As is starting to happen now, due to the leftwing press and BBC, the Conservative party ended up getting the blame for the results of the Labour mismanagement of the economy, it was a difficult task to sort out which required a lot of courage and nerve but when the Conservatives left office in 1997 they left behind a country which was the envy of the world with a robust golden economy, fully funded in surplus pensions system, in a position to finish the repayment of war debts and a strong healthy future, until Labour came along again and history repeated itself!

No Mr Clegg, your drubbing at the poles had nothing to do with fear of the return of the 80’s but with the Lib Dem’s dishonesty in almost every seat they fought, it is obvious, they wooed the voters with wild promises they knew (hoped!) they would never have to deliver, some policies fairly right-wing for Conservative seats and some far left for Labour seats and they looked like nice people, out of touch but nice. The majority of the voters you lost were traditionally left of centre Labour voters and students, the very fact that you joined a Conservative coalition government should have meant this was expected and prepared for because these voters are not Lib Dem voters but disaffected Labour voters who would have expected you to join with Labour.

It is significant that even though you gained a lot of Labour voters at the 2010 general election you actually had a very poor result and the power you now have within the coalition is way greater than your political mandate.

if the LIb Dem’s bring the coalition down for their own political ends the country will never forgive them!

So no Mr Clegg, your poll drubbing was noting to do with fear of the golden 80’s but just that you were found out, hopefully David Cameron will just tell you to shut up and knuckle down because you have nowhere else to go, if the LIb Dem’s bring the coalition down for their own political ends the country will never forgive them!
