Politics, American style, we thought we had problems!

For those of you, who like me have been watching the politics and progress of the American presidential election wasn’t it amazing that in a country such as America the standard of candidates for the top job was so low, it is painful to listen to them!

With pitiful to no knowledge of politics outside of the USA they flounce on to the world stage and fall at the first question, none of the candidates for the Republican nomination would make the grade as a British backbench MP let alone leader of the worlds most powerful nation!

Politics of course is different in the USA, you need money and I mean real money, unlike the UK where political spending by candidates is strictly limited to maintain a level playing field and you don’t need to be rich to get into politics, in America you can buy, relatively speaking, your way into politics.

$billions are spent on every Presidential election and candidates are marketed as a product but as was shown in the selection process not one of the Republican candidates could stand up to a robust interview, even Mitt Romney the eventual winner.

Watching the politics and progress of the American presidential election wasn’t it amazing that in a country such as America the standard of candidates for the top job was so low.

Now, President Obama may not have lived up to all expectations and in many ways may have fallen far short but to watch Mitt Romney’s blundering during his current venture onto the world stage it seems incredible that Barack Obama could actually be replaced by this amateur actor of a politician, at least Obama has / is growing into the job in very difficult times and shows the potential to be a real heavyweight.

Of course while ever money is the main driving factor you will always get distortions within American politics but heaven help us if we get Bush mark 2 as the next President of the United States, watching Mitt Romney’s progress on the world stage with seemingly no preparation I can fully understand why David Cameron did not want to meet him during his American visit, let us hope Cameron does not have to deal with Mitt Romney as the newly elected American President, Bush mark 2 for 4/8 years could be really painful.
