Libya, we don’t actually know what we have ended up with!

The truth is that despite all the jubilation we don’t actually know what we have ended up with, we may have just exchanged one tyrant for many others!

Libya – Gaddafi may have been a vicious and ruthless tyrant but it may be that the many factions within Libya needed that type of leadership to control them, believe me the various elements within Libya are equally ruthless and power hungry and could result in another Czechoslovakia where the various factions fought for several years after Tito’s departure.

It should be remembered that is only a few weeks ago that the opposition to Gaddafi shot/murdered one of their own generals and, so soon after a perceived victory, cracks are already showing in their ranks, we may have helped to create a new democracy but equally we may have helped to create a blood bath.

It also must be remembered that there is no administration, political, government infrastructure in Libya, they are starting from scratch and that again will require otherwise warring factions to work very closely together, we have to hope they can find the trust in each other.

On a personal note I don’t think we should have been involved, as with Iraq, Afghanistan etc you can’t just magic up democracy, it has to evolve and sometimes it is a very long and painful process and we must accept that we haven’t created democracy in Libya, I just hope we haven’t created something worse!
