House of Lords Reform, a Lib Dem attempt to snatch your Freedoms!

The House of Lords is excellent at what it does but it is not a rival to the House of Commons, it compliments the House of Commons, to make the House of Lords an elected chamber would create a rival to the House of Commons

Yes, House of Lords reform was in every party manifesto at the last General Election, Labour’s because they just can’t grasp the fundamentals of government. the Lib Dem’s because they want to fragment government and rig the voting system so that they are always in power and the Conservatives because David Cameron just doesn’t believe passionately in anything, it was politically correct to include it and he just can’t be fussed!

So it is very important that the public show support for the Conservative MP’s who are opposing this process, they are safeguarding our democracy and in any case with the economy and the country in so much trouble why on earth are we messing around with House of Lords reform?

Nick Clegg – BEWARE this man, he is after your FREEDOMS!

When it comes to House of Lords reform the Lib Dem and Labour spokesmen/women speak about it not being democratic to have a legislative chamber which is unelected and it is definitely undemocratic but the House of Lords Reform is not dealing with a legislative chamber, the House of Lords does not create or propose legislation, it is purely a revising chamber primarily to ensure legislation is drafted properly and if required to challenge its assumptions but not to take the lead in creating legislation, that is the role of an elected House of Commons. This is why the House of Lords is a unelected chamber where we can bring all the top brains in the country together to scrutinise and revise legislation as required, these people are valuable to our democracy but would not normally get involved in politics and, in the main, would never stand for election, the House of Lords is also probably the finest debating chamber in the world.

The House of Lords is excellent at what it does but it is not a rival to the House of Commons, it compliments the House of Commons, to make the House of Lords an elected chamber would create a rival to the House of Commons, drive away many of the people we need to serve in the House of Lords and create log jams within our system.

The public must take on board this Lib Dem project at its true value, the Lib Dem’s having lost out in the AV vote see this as another way to get a major part of the legislative elected by Proportional Representation which would essentially guaranty them power in that legislature, Proportional Representation (PR), whilst it purports to be the most democratic voting system, it is in fact totally anti democracy and largely removes any influence the voter can have, once you have PR it is very difficult to remove a government. The European Parliament is elected by PR and it is the most undemocratic institutions in the world, ranking with the Kremlin, if we had full PR in this country our chance of influencing anything would be zero but the politicians would tell us that we had more influence and they would tell us so often we would end up believing them!

So it is very important that the public show support for the Conservative MP’s who are opposing this process, they are safeguarding our democracy and in any case with the economy and the country in so much trouble why on earth are we messing around with House of Lords reform?
